哎呀!Aiya! Ahhrghh!

無意中找到這一系列 YouTube 短片,覺得很有趣,也很欣賞他們製作短片的心思,還有歡樂的演出。不過,下面這一句「哎呀」譯作「shit」感覺有點怪怪的。
Just discovered a series of YouTube movies and found it very interesting. Love their joyful acting and admire their efforts on making such a movie. But, it is a bit weird that the word “Aiya” has been translated into “shit” below.

▲ “Aiya” in Cantonese is not equal to “shit”.

也許西方人常用「shit」來表達抱怨,就像片段中那樣,但「哎呀」從來都不是髒話,而「shit」在英語中是一句髒話。這裡譯作「噢,得了吧!」的意思應該比較恰當。
Maybe westerners used to say “shit” to grumble about something. However, “shit” is a dirty word in English but “Aiya” is not a dirty word at all, neither in Chinese nor Cantonese. Use “Oh, come on!” here should be more appropriate.

▲ “Aiya” in Cantonese represents a sound of surprise, uncomfortable, dissatisfied.

同一短片後段的「哎呀」是驚嘆的聲音,也是此詞的本意:一個表達驚訝、不安、不滿的象聲詞。
The word “Aiya” represents a sound of surprise, uncomfortable, dissatisfied in the final segment of the movie clip. This is what “Aiya” truly means. It is an onomatopoeia.
