Wed, 08 Feb 2012 17:12:15 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.1 看美劇學英語：Gossip Girl http://www.nico.hk/2010/02/22/watch-and-learn-english-from-gossip-girl/ http://www.nico.hk/2010/02/22/watch-and-learn-english-from-gossip-girl/#comments Sun, 21 Feb 2010 19:11:29 +0000 Nicole http://www.nico.hk/?p=285 很落伍的最近才開始看美劇 Gossip Girl。以前一直很主觀的認為，這種連續劇不適合自己看。不就是嬉笑怒罵亂搞一氣的男女關係嗎？不料一看三集，再看就是九集，迷上了這齣電視劇。劇中的男女關係確是很複雜沒錯，但看劇情鋪排又似合情合理，而且當中亦滲透了很多人與人之間的相處之道，看後對於愛情、友情、親情三方面都有不少體會。除了劇情、俊男美女、時裝服飾，喜歡看此劇的另一主因是可以學到比較多日常生活的英語，或是俚語，不像 House、Fringe 那些醫學類或科幻類的劇集整天說著正常人不會說的深奧對白。(題外話：總覺得 Gossip Girl 女主角 Serena 的神態跟 Fringe 女主角 Olivia 有些相似。)


▲ 用 One nation can’t have two queens. 來表達「一山不能藏二虎」的意境確是很貼切，比 One mountain cannot hide two tigers 好多了。


▲ 女主角跟好友吵架後，說 She gave me the boot. 是甚麼意思呢？


▲ 原來 Someone gave you the boot 就是說某人把你踢出門口了。

Just discovered a series of YouTube movies and found it very interesting. Love their joyful acting and admire their efforts on making such a movie. But, it is a bit weird that the word “哎呀” has been translated into “shit” below.

也許西方人常用「shit」來表達抱怨，就像片段中那樣，但「哎呀」從來都不是髒話，而「shit」在英語中是一句髒話。這裡譯作「噢，得了吧！」的意思應該比較恰當。
Maybe westerners used to say “shit” to grumble about something. However, “shit” is a dirty word in English but “哎呀” is not a dirty word at all, neither in Chinese nor Cantonese. Use “Oh, come on!” here should be more appropriate.

同一短片後段的「哎呀」是驚嘆的聲音，也是此詞的本意：一個表達驚訝、不安、不滿的象聲詞。
The word “哎呀” represents a sound of surprise, uncomfortable, dissatisfied in the final segment of the movie clip. This is what “哎呀” truly means. It is an onomatopoeia.
